Midtown Corner is the third phase in Wellington Management’s redevelopment of the former Rainbow Foods grocery store at Lake Street and Hiawatha Avenue in South Minneapolis.
The six-story project includes 189 apartments, including 38 affordable apartments available to households earning 60 percent or less of area median income. The project features studio, one-bedroom and two-bedroom units, as well as a tenant amenity deck facing the Minneapolis skyline and 7,650 SF of neighborhood ground-floor retail space.
Site construction began in August 2019 with improvements to the existing parking lot in front of the Aldi grocery store at Minnehaha Crossing. Building construction began in October 2019 and proceeded smoothly through framing. During the civil unrest of late-May 2020, the building burned to the ground and was declared a total loss.
With the original building permits in hand, the team proceeded quickly to demolish the remaining concrete foundation and started reconstruction in August. Thanks to the unwavering dedication of our general contractor, Watson-Forsberg, and their subcontractors, Midtown Corner is on-track to be completed in fall 2021. Pre-leasing will begin later this spring.
